The Essential Lakeland Private Tour

Private Tour Highlights

This private Lake District tour makes a great day trip from London or Edinburgh. It is a more leisurely selective tour focusing on 'essential lakeland' - the most beautiful lakes, waterfalls, mountains and pretty villages. The above are suggested highlights to be seen on the tour but as it is a private tour we can suitably adjust and tailor to your interests.

We drive through the centre of the Lake District alongside the beautiful lakes of Rydal and Grasmere. On a private tour we have the flexibility to break for lunch at Grasmere village or take time to visit inside the homes of William Wordsworth at Dove Cottage or Rydal Mount. Our private tour continues over Dunmail Raise to the dam of Thirlmere for a stunning view of Helvellyn mountain. The unmissable view known locally as 'Surprise View' is a classic must see view over Derwentwater to the imposing mountain of Skiddaw.

We cross the ancient bridge at Grange over the River Derwent to follow the northern shore of Derwentwater to complete a circuit of the lake before stopping at Castlerigg, the mysterious stone circle where we can walk around to explore some of the ideas as to how and why this circle was built.

On a private Lake District tour there is the option to take a cruise on a heritage vessel operated by Ullswater steamers  from Aira Force to Glenridding and experience the Lake District from a different perspective. The cruise is 30 mins long and in good weather not to be missed!

We meet you off the cruise at Glenridding to rejoin the private tour for the drive over Kirkstone Pass which offers spectacular views down to Windermere and the Troutbeck Valley before ending the tour at Windermere for your return to Oxenholme and your onward journey.

Why Lake District Tours?

Blue Badge Tourist GuideTour the Lake District with a Blue Badge Tourist Guide,
an official, professional tourist guide of the United Kingdom. They are recognised by local tourist bodies throughout the UK, and by Visit Britain as Britain's official tourist guides.

Lake District Tours start with an unfair advantage. The Lake District is one of the most sublimely beautiful places I’ve seen.

Their service is attuned to the scenery. Rather than travelling in big impersonal coaches, it’s as if you’re being driven around by friends who’ve been looking forward to your visit so they can show you, and share with you, the special places they’ve come to love.

After five memorable and varied weeks overseas, we’re telling family and friends how the Lake District tour was the highlight.

Thanks again – Don & Judy Lipscombe

Lake District Tours Excellent service

“Four days of sublime scenery, most of which we would have missed had we not been guided by Andy.  He was generous with his exceptional local knowledge, was a considerate and careful driver, but mostly was a most enjoyable travelling companion.  Highly recommended.  Tim & Gethyn Prior”
