Hadrians Wall Tour

The World Heritage Site of Hadrians Wall can be explored as a day trip from the Lake District or as part of a transfer to the city of Edinburgh. The Wall forms part of a 75 mile frontier system of forts, milecastles, huge ditches and of course the wall itself that runs through some of the most remote and least populated country in England.

Sycamore Gap on Hadrians Wall

To make the most of the day we leave early at 0830 and drive through the northern Lake District to reach Lanecost Priory for our first 'glimpse' of the wall and an excellent coffee stop. On this tour we visit some of the best viewpoints for the most preserved sections of the wall. For the more active I highly recommended walking short sections to get a feel for the wall and perhaps hiking to Sycamore Gap. The terrain is hilly with some steep up and down steps but affords stunning views when the weather is kind.

Vindolanda Roman fort on Hadrians Wall

On this tour we can also visit the Roman Fort at Vindolanda and observe the ongoing archaeological excavations before a visit to the Roman Army Museum where an excellent film provides an aerial 3D Eagle eye view of where we have been. There are cafes in the forts and museums for lunch.

Hadrian’s Wall is one of the most significant Roman sites in Europe.
This amazing monument can be explored along its length; visiting:

All located in a panoramic landscape with as much or as little wall walking as you prefer

Why Lake District Tours?

Blue Badge Tourist GuideTour the Lake District with a Blue Badge Tourist Guide,
an official, professional tourist guide of the United Kingdom. They are recognised by local tourist bodies throughout the UK, and by Visit Britain as Britain's official tourist guides.

Lake District Tours start with an unfair advantage. The Lake District is one of the most sublimely beautiful places I’ve seen.

Their service is attuned to the scenery. Rather than travelling in big impersonal coaches, it’s as if you’re being driven around by friends who’ve been looking forward to your visit so they can show you, and share with you, the special places they’ve come to love.

After five memorable and varied weeks overseas, we’re telling family and friends how the Lake District tour was the highlight.

Thanks again – Don & Judy Lipscombe

Lake District Tours Excellent service

“Four days of sublime scenery, most of which we would have missed had we not been guided by Andy.  He was generous with his exceptional local knowledge, was a considerate and careful driver, but mostly was a most enjoyable travelling companion.  Highly recommended.  Tim & Gethyn Prior”
